STORY BLOCK Rated R
The Social Worker...continued
“Ms. Juran, I can't handle it...” Eisle said weakly when he saw her. “God...why didn't you call for me..we could have talked.” Paramedics entered the room, pushing Susan and a couple of officers out of their way. Susan and the officers left the room. Susan stopped just outside the cell door. “Jesus...” she said. Smith watched Susan as she closed her eyes tightly. “He's crazy...I wouldn't sweat it if I were you.” he said in a slightly consoling tone. “I think I'm gonna be sick.” Susan said as the color drained from her face. Susan ran for the outer door. Officer Pate followed her. The door buzzed open and the two stepped outside. “You okay?” Pate asked. Susan leaned against the wall. “Yeah...I felt sick for a minute there. I can't believe he did this. Weren't you guys doing your rounds?” Pate ignored her comment. “He was acting flaky all night.” “Why didn't someone call me?” “Cuz he's crazy! He was talking shit about all kinds of things...he was even talking about how worried he was about you...” he said in a defensive tone. “What? Why?” “Who knows. Like I said, he was talking crazy...we figured it was an act.” Susan looked at Pate. He wasn’t as bad as the rest of the good old boys, but he was definitely one of them. She shook her head and then walked away as the paramedics come out of the door with the inmate on a gurney.
