A message from the land of hurricanes and tornados

I'm a southern girl, born and raised in Florida. I've dealt with hurricanes my whole life. When I decided that Florida was too expensive, my husband and I came to Mississippi bought land and hired a builder. Now, I knew that MS got hurricanes too, but I'm used to that. Well, needless to say, as soon as the builder started on our house, the biggest hurricane of all hit. We were lucky, others were not. Many people lost their lives here. What Katrina did for me, was to make me painfully aware of the fact that if you own a home, you need a "safe room" for your severe weather safety. There is a place online called FamilySAFE and they have been building safe rooms, storm shelters and tornado shelters for years. They were actually the first company to build an actual "safe room" in a home. I haven't decided yet, exactly what I want but I will definitely be considering it. If you decide you need a safe room or shelter, here's one tip; check with your state to see if they offer any storm shelter grants. I just found out that MS will give individuals grants up to $3k if they build one. It might be worth your time to find out.
