Linda's face softens. LINDA (continuing) I actually like your family...I just don't like being used. There is a time and place for everything and you were at work all the time, never even took a day off. It felt like you were just working to pay for everyone else to enjoy themselves. It was meant to be our time! BRIAN (snapping) Oh...just leave it, Linda! LINDA (snapping back) Leave it...I'll leave it. You just remember that I will never put up with anything like it again. I will not have anyone staying in our home without agreeing to it first! BRIAN (almost yelling) Look, I didn't invite anyone...they just came and presumed they could stop here. LINDA Yes and you didn't tell any of them otherwise. You refused to go into a hotel even just for our wedding night. I wouldn't have minded so much if we'd done this. I love your Auntie to bits, she is a great character, but we even had to move her off the end of our bed on our wedding night. Linda laughs loudly. LINDA (continuing) That was kind of funny. As for that little bitch hanger on...how I didn't smack her one and throw her out...I don't know. You should never have put me in such a position in the first place. Brian sits back down next to Linda. BRIAN I know, but what could I do? They are my family! LINDA (sympathetically) I know...that's why I didn't explode at them. Both our families don't want our marriage to work. My mother with her snooty attitude. Oh yes, we couldn't have a church wedding. Dad had a job to even get her to agree to him paying for the carpets in the flat instead. Her feeble excuses that it would be embarrassing for your family because of the class difference was gross and the fact that you only got Ricky in as bestman and one of my friends had to gate crash is just as bad. Mind you when your Auntie gave my Dad that big kiss when she arrived at the reception was hilarious. If looks could kill, the one Mum gave her would have done it! BRIAN (smiling) Yes, that was funny. Could have done with a photo of that one. As to the rest of it, I think it would be best to just forget about it and put it behind us...don't you? Linda smiles at Brian. LINDA Agreed. I don't think your family thought about what they were doing. I think it is better to put it down to class difference on what is the done thing. I don't think it was deliberately done with malice aforethought...at least I hope not. It just got up my nose at the times as it is something I just wouldn't do...having been brought up to look at things differently.
