WINDY HILL, 1974 INT. BUNGALOW KITCHEN - MORNING Linda and Brian are having coffee at the table alone. Linda is very pregnant. Brian pats her belly. BRIAN Well, it won't be long now. LINDA I can't wait! Would be nice if it was a girl, but as long as it's normal and healthy I couldn't really give a toss. BRIAN No, I don't care what sex it is either. (patting her stomach again) Ahh...Herman. Linda gives him a mock frown. BRIAN (continuing) Sorry, you mum doesn't like that name. Linda laughs and they take a sip of their coffee. LINDA I'm dreading tomorrow! BRIAN Well, the doctor said the baby has to brought on. At least you can get back to normal then. LINDA True. Linda holds her belly. LINDA (continuing) This is getting just a bit too heavy. (lifting her belly upwards) Actually a lot too heavy. Linda leans back in her chair to stretch her back. LINDA (continuing) Windy Hill is okay, but it wouldn't have been my actual choice...still, at least, it is bigger than the flat. BRIAN Yes. We could have chosen a property to suit our needs if it wasn't for your mum. LINDA Well, lets face it...she did have to look after Ann's interests first. I mean until I have control of my own trust company it was this place or nothing. You should know by now, Brian, Ann's needs come first. The fact that we need a farm style property and not a residential type place is, after all, besides the point when Ann needs to sell this first before she can get the property that she wants. BRIAN Yes, your bloody mother's doing it again. Your Dad doesn't seem to have any say in anything that goes on...does he? LINDA No, once mum decides that's it, he will do anything for peace and quiet...you know that. BRIAN Yes, but generally, he's such a strong character...I mean he runs companies and the like! LINDA But when it comes to mother, he has given up arguing. She'd just make his life hell...just like she has made mine and I wouldn't want him; to stand up for me, only to get picked on by her for it. Brian walks over to the work top and puts the kettle on. BRIAN Another cuppa?
