INT. GROCERY STORE - DAY
Linda is looking at some things on a shelf. She is not
paying attention as a WOMAN approaches her. When the woman
reaches her side, Linda looks up and smiles at the woman, who
does not have a friendly face.
WOMAN
Are you Linda Corby?
LINDA
(smiling)
Yes...do I know you?
WOMAN
(snarling)
Your sister-in-law, Lillian, told
me you are a baby murderer!
Suddenly the woman spits in Linda's face. Linda stands
still, totally in shock as the woman abruptly turns and walks
away.
INT. LINDA'S HOUSE - LATE NIGHT
Linda is in her nightgown, sitting at the kitchen table. She
looks at a couple of empty Brandy bottles on the table.
There is note laying there in front of her with a pen laid on
top of it along with several pill bottles which are now
empty. One of the bottles is toppled over and there are some
pills laying beside it. Linda picks up the remaining pills
and throws them into her mouth and takes a swig of Brandy to
swill them down. She gets up and swaggers to an old settee
by the window behind her and collapses, pulling a blanket
over her.
LINDA (V.O.)
(thinking)
I didn't kill Benji! How could
they think that? I love him! I
can't live with anyone thinking
that...especially not you. Even
the thought that you might think
that...is just too much!
Linda takes a deep breath and then speaks outloud.
