What is HDMI?

Ask me what HDMI is and all I can tell you is that it has something to do with high definition video and audio. I don't really understand anything except that you need a HDMI cable and I assume it will enhance our audio and video experience. How good can television or movies really get? I remember the first color tv we got when I was a teen. The picture was a bit fuzzy and for the most part, most of the time, the picture had a green color to it. We sure have come a long way.
