This real estate crisis sure has changed things

We all know that this crisis has hurt homeowners and sales of homes. Everywhere you look you see boarded up houses and for sale signs. What surprises me though is how there are so many house for rent by owner. I'm guessing they are people who moved out of their home because they couldn't afford it and are hoping to put someone in to pay the payment for them. I'm not sure how well this is working for people though since they have to get their payment which may be a bit high.
